Being present and accepting things that I cannot change are the core principles of my life now. When I was young, I thought I could change anything as long as I desired to do so. I finally realized that wasting energy to change the unchangeable is a silly fantasy beyond wisdom and reality. Accepting things as they are and doing my best in the most efficient way possible is an excellent approach to life.
Many people in our society do not dare to accept that something is beyond our ability to change. They waste their valuable time and energy to struggle to change the things over which they have no power to make a difference. They must suffer disappointment, resentment, depression and anger. For example, we cannot change natural disasters, like tsunamis, hurricanes, tornados, earthquakes, winter storms, etc..
Allowing the things that we cannot change to happen is true wisdom, so I always honor how others choose to live and behave without pointing fingers at them. We will achieve more and be happy to focus on the things we can change and make a difference to others instead of sticking to the negative and sad situations that can’t be changed. For example, I choose to meditate and search inside myself rather than check on friends’ Twitter or Facebook every day. Life is a choice; I choose to be happy.
